Posted: Updated:

NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP)- Two people have been rescued after their sailboat overturned in the Delaware River.

Goodwill Fire Company spokesman David Majewski Jr. says emergency rescue crews responded to the scene Sunday evening for reports of an overturned boat in New Castle.

Majewski says crews helped bring two members of the New Castle Sailing Club to shore. The pair was treated at the scene for injuries.

He says severe weather, including heavy rainfall and strong winds, contributed to the boat overturning.

The overturned boat was located and brought back to shore.

Space Heater Safety Urged as Temperatures Plummet

With temperatures expected to drop in the coming weeks, fire safety officials are urging people who use space heaters to warm up rooms or homes to be careful in where and when they use the devices.

Dover Assistant Fire Chief Chris Jacobs said there does tend to be an increased number of space heater fires once it becomes much colder. Those incidents, he said, are often caused by people who place heaters near combustible materials or leave them unattended while still on.
