Woman Charged With Internal Theft From Milford Apartment Complex

Posted: Updated:

MILFORD, Del. - A Smyrna woman has been charged in connection with internal thefts while police say she was employed by a local apartment complex management office.

According to Milford police, investigation revealed that while 35-year-old Tashana Smith was working for the management office of the Cascades development, she told tenants to provide her with blank money orders for rent that she said she would fill out for them. Police say Smith would take the money orders, make them out to herself, cash them and keep the money. Smith also told new tenants to pay in cash for the first month's rent and security deposit, according to police, which she would keep.

From May to December of 2015, police say Smith obtained more than $8,800.

She was charged with felony theft of $1,500 or more, four counts of second-degree forgery and falsifying business records. Smith was arraigned and released on $11,000 unsecured bond. A booking photo is unavailable at this time.
