SALISBURY, Md.- A Salisbury woman is facing DUI and related charges after authorities say she drove drunk with a 5-year-old child in the car.

The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened at around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, June 4, when a deputy responded to the report of a possible driver in distress on the 3000 block of Phillips Road. Upon arrival, the deputy observed a Volkswagen Passat stuck on top of a log adjacent to a driveway.

Authorities said the deputy observed that the driver, 25-year-old Amber Marie Lee, appeared to be asleep as she was lying across the center console. The deputy also reportedly observed a small child asleep in the rear seat. The deputy woke Lee up and detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Lee, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said that due to the odor and other observed indicators, the deputy suspected impairment and began sobriety testing. Following her poor performance on the sobriety tests, the deputy placed Lee under arrest, the Sheriff's Office said.

The deputy also discovered that the 5-year-old child in the back seat was neither in a car seat nor seat belted in, investigators said.

Authorities said that during subsequent processing, Lee refused to submit to a breath test.

Lee was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol while transporting a minor and driving under the influence of alcohol and ordered held in the Wicomico County Detention Center in lieu of $5,000 bond.
