CRISFIELD, Md.- Garbage collection in the City of Crisfield will now be done by a private garbage collection company. The decision to hire a private trash collection company came after the one garbage collection truck Crisfield had was in need of dire replacement.

City Manager Rick Pollitt said the city made the decision to hire a private company based on its cost effectiveness.

"Crisfield residents opting to use the city's garbage collection service will see a $2 increase in their garbage collection fee," he said.

Pollitt said this fee will cover additional costs associated with hiring the privately contracted garbage collection service.

Pollitt said the city will initially enter in a two-year contract with Chesapeake Waste Industries, LLC for the collection of the city's trash.

Garbage collection through Chesapeake Waste Industries, LLC will start next week in Crisfield, according to Pollitt.
