OCEAN CITY, Md. - A day after the deadly shooting in Orlando, the boardwalk in Ocean City was packed with locals and visitors enjoying the day.  However, the tragic news from Florida was still fresh in the minds of many.

"It was absolutely horrific and I think what's going on right now really needs to make people aware of who they're around and not to be so afraid to speak up," said Josie Vale, who was in Ocean City from Texas on vacation.

Vale told WBOC a day after the Orlando shooting that her personal sense of security is heightened and she is very aware of her surroundings.

"Yes, I am always constantly looking to see who's around me and what they're doing, what they're activity is, if they're putting things down.  You know, I definitely do look," Vale said.

While some said they were more nervous than usual in a heavily populated public setting, others WBOC spoke with on the boardwalk said they tried to treat Monday like any other day.

"I believe in God and if its my day, then its my day and I am still going to live my life everyday in the normal way," said Tallon Deneau of Federalsburg, Md.

"I kind of feel safe wherever I do.  I don't want to live my life in fear.  You have to be observant of what's going on around you but I just don't let it worry me," said Cynthia Conley of Elkton, Va.

Whether they were extra cautious Monday or trying not to let the news in Orlando impact their routine, everyone WBOC spoke with said they would not let the actions of others dictate their lives.

"I'm an American," Vale said.  "And I am proud to be one and I'm not afraid to go anywhere I want."
