Teenage Girl Shot Near Felton; Suspect Sought

Posted: Updated:

FELTON, Del. - Troopers are investigating a shooting that happened early Tuesday morning near Felton.

According to the Delaware State Police, someone called 911 around 3:19 a.m., to report multiple shots fired during a party at a home in the unit block of Weatherstone Lane in Felton. When troopers arrived, they secured the area and spoke to several witnesses.

Police say shortly after the report of shots fired, a 15-year-old girl showed up to the Frederica Volunteer Fire Department with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. EMS transported the victim to a local hospital, where police say she is listed in stable condition. According to police, the girl is not believed to have been the intended target of the shooting.

By conducting multiple interviews, detectives learned that an argument had taken place outside a home. As people were leaving, the argument turned into a fight, and shots were fired, hitting the victim.

Police say the suspect is described as a skinny, black male, between 17 and 20 years of age, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10, wearing a white t-shirt.

The investigation is still in its early stages and police say they will release more information when it becomes available.

If anyone has any information in reference to this incident they are asked to contact Detective D. Blomquist at 302-698-8426.  Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333, via the internet at www.delaware.crimestoppersweb.com, or by sending an anonymous tip by text to 274637 (CRIMES) using the keyword "DSP."
