Embattled Baltimore Schools Police Chief Resigns

Posted: Updated:

BALTIMORE (AP)- Education officials say the head of the Baltimore schools police has resigned, three months after he was put on administrative leave when an officer was recorded slapping and kicking a student.

Schools officials said Wednesday in a statement that Chief Marshall Goodwin resigned effective June 10 from the force he has led since 2007.

Goodwin was put on leave in March, after video surfaced of a school police officer assaulting a student. Two school police officers have been charged with assault and misconduct in connection with the incident.

School officials said in a statement that Goodwin was not involved in the March incident and that he resigned to pursue other interests.
