SALISBURY, Md. - The Wicomico Youth and Civic Center will be able to service alcohol beverages for the first time following an approval of a liquor license Tuesday night.

The county's Board of License Commissioners approved the license at a public hearing Tuesday, allowing the civic center to sell beer, wine and liquor at events. Alcohol will not, however, be sold at events typically catered to children, according to Charles Rousseau, the civic center manager.

"There was a lot of people involved in making this a reality and I think there's a lot of people out there that would love to just be able to have a beer or a beverage while they're attending a show and enjoying it," Rousseau said. "It's part of the experience, just like when you go to an amphitheater or something like that, so we're real excited about all that."

Rousseau said alcohol sales will not begin until mid-September at the earliest.
