Update: Officials Confirm Missing Man Found, Not in River

Posted: Updated:

CAMBRIDGE, Md. - Emergency crews in Dorchester County found a man who had wandered off Tuesday night and whose family had been worried ended up in the Choptank River.

The alert originally came out as a water rescue near the Sailwinds Visitor Center in Cambridge, Md., but a person with knowledge of the situation with Cambridge Fire and Rescue said the man was found near Dorchester General Hospital, and not in the water.

The person, who wished to remain anonymous, said the man was from out of town and had become lost and disoriented, and had a medical emergency. He said the man's family had feared the man had ended up in the water, causing the search in the river.

According to witnesses in the area, Trooper 6 with the Maryland State Police and the U.S. Coast Guard were out searching the water after 11 p.m., but the state police helicopter was seen leaving the area after about an hour.

The man's condition was not known as of Wednesday morning.
