Herring Creek Residents Vote for Public Sewer System

Posted: Updated:
GEORGETOWN, Del.- Residents and property owners of Herring Creek Estates and several surrounding subdivisions near Angola voted in favor of a new public sewer system.

On Saturday, voters opted for a county-owned and operated sewer system that will provide public wastewater service to the communities of Herring Creek Estates, Brandywood, Pinewater Farms and Winding Creek Village.

Unofficial results of the vote were 439 in favor of the district, with 272 voting against. The Sussex County Council still needs to approve the decision.

The County Engineering Department will begin designing the estimated $19 million system to serve the new district and its nearly 800 properties, said John J. Ashman, director of Utility Planning. Construction should begin by summer 2017 and be completed by fall 2019.

Copies of the sanitary sewer district map, as well as PowerPoint presentations explaining estimated rates, are available online at www.sussexcountyde.gov/proposed-projects-schedules, or by calling (302) 855-1299.
