LAUREL, Del.- Troopers arrested a Laurel man Wednesday morning in connection to a robbery that happened last month.

Police say it happened aroundd 5:50 p.m. on July 6, as a 22-year-old man was leaving the Five Points Liquor Store. Police say he was approached by a suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Devontae L. Massey, who asked for a cigarette. The victim and gave him one and then walked towards Woodland Ferry Road.

Police say the Massey continued to follow the victim while talking on a cell phone and once again asked for another cigarette.  Again, the victim handed the man a cigarette and walked away.

Just before the little league park, police say the Massey asked if he could have a dollar from the victim.  The victim then pulled his wallet from his pocket when the suspect snatched the wallet from his hands.

According to police, the victim then began fighting with Massey before he fled. The victim chased after him, but Massey got away.

Police also linked Massey to a separate case that happened July 27. Troopers say Massey assaulted a 29-year-old woman in a parking lot at the Greenwood Inn aroun 4:00 a.m. He got away before police arrived, but troopers received information on his whereabouts and tracked him down on August 3.

Massey was arrested and is charged with 2nd-degree robbery and theft under $1.500 in the first case. He's facing a 3rd-degree assault charge in connection with the incident at Greenwood Inn.

Massey was arraigned at JP3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $3,250 secured bond.
