One Killed, Two Injured in Millsboro Area Crash

Posted: Updated:

MILLSBORO, Del.- Delaware State Police say one person was killed and two others injured following an early Thursday evening crash north of Millsboro.

Troopers said the incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. as 70-year-old Bradford L. Grimm, of Millsboro, was operating a 1996 Honda Accord southbound on Bethesda Road and approaching the intersection with Avenue of Honor, which is controlled by a stop sign. Police said that meantime, 32-year-old Stacey A. Hastings, of Bridgeville, was operating a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer westbound on Avenue of Honor and approaching the intersection with Bethesda Road with the right of way.

Police said that for unknown reasons, the Accord failed to stop at the stop sign and entered the intersection in front of the Trailblazer. Investigators said that as a result, the front of the Trailblazer struck the left side of the Accord, causing it to rotate counter-clockwise and go off the south side of the road where it struck a sign post and utility pole before coming to a stop.  The Trailblazer rotated counter-clockwise as it exited the south west corner of the intersection and came to a stop in a field, police said.

Grimm was properly restrained and transported to Beebe Healthcare where he was pronounced dead, according to investigators.

Hastings and her 1-year-old son, who police said were properly restrained, were removed from the scene by EMS and transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

The DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation into this incident. Police said alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this case.

Avenue of Honor at Bethesda Road was closed for approximately two and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
