SALISBURY, Md.- Police say the odor of marijuana from a passing car led to a traffic stop and the arrest of an 18-year-old Salisbury man on drug and gun charges.

Salisbury police said that at around 9:30 p.m. Friday, officers were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on the 200 block of Elizabeth Street. Officers were unable to locate the wanted person and began to walk back to their patrol vehicle.

Police said that as the officers were re-entering their patrol vehicle, a Kia Optima passed by and the officers immediately smelled burning
marijuana coming from the passenger compartment of the passing car.

According to police, the officers then entered their vehicle and followed the Kia as it traveled north on North Division Street. Police said that officers
continued to detect the odor of burning marijuana coming directly from the passenger compartment of the Kia. A traffic stop
was initiated on the Kia on the 100 block of East Lehigh Avenue.

Authorities said that as the Kia came to a rest, 18-year-old Tyquan Jamal King, of Salisbury, got out of the car and began to run. Police said officers told him to stop but he ran through several backyards, in between houses and crossed North Salisbury Boulevard.

Investigators said King ran to the 400 block of Elizabeth Street where he broke through the front door of a home in an effort to hide from the officers.

King left the burglarized home through the second floor window but was eventually taken into custody on the 500 block of East Church Street, according to investigators.

Police said a search and seizure warrant was executed on the Kia, which resulted in the the seizure of two loaded .32-caliber handguns and an
undisclosed amount of narcotics.

King was charged with wear, carry and transport a handgun, prohibited person in possession of a firearm, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana,
possession of heroin, burglary and malicious destruction of property.

The investigation is continuing and anyone with additional information concerning this investigation is asked to contact the Salisbury Police Department at (410) 548-3165 or Crime Solvers at (410) 548-1776.
