DOVER, Del. (AP/WBOC) - The Dover Police Department is investigating the robbery of a "Pokemon Go" player Saturday morning.

Authorities say a 20-year-old man was playing the popular smartphone game near Legislative Avenue, when three male suspects called for his attention. Police said the player believed the group was in the area to play the game as well, proceeding to approach them. According to investigators, the victim was then assaulted, with the suspects taking an undisclosed amount of cash from his pockets and a gold necklace. The suspects fled the scene toward Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The Dover Police Department urged the game's players to be aware of their surroundings and alert at all times, especially at night or in unpopulated areas. The police are asking anyone with any information to call the Dover Police Department at (302) 736-7130 or call the Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333. Information may also be submitted through the Dover Police Department MyPD mobile app.

"Pokemon Go" is a virtual smartphone game that encourages gamers to wander in search of virtual Pokemon in their local areas.
