BERLIN, Md.- With extreme summer heat continuing throughout the area, the Town of Berlin Electric Department is asking its customers to limit their energy usage on Monday.
The department says that Monday, July 25th's Tweak Our Peak alert is being issued between the hours of 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., when customers are reported to be using the greatest amount of electricity.
According to Berlin Electric, the Tweak Our Peak program helps the department and its customers save money. By cutting back on the amount of wholesale power purchased during the peak hours, which are more costly, the department says it can reduce the total wholesale power costs. Reductions in wholesale power costs are passed through to Berlin Electric customers in their monthly bills, the department reports.
Berlin Electric customers are advised to save money by limiting their energy usage during the peak hours by reducing usage of major appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines, and clothes dryers. Customers can also delay their use of hot water, closing their window shades and turning up their thermostats three degrees during peak hours.
