DOVER, Del. U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.) says he will join firefighters from around the state to announce a $302, 673 Assistance to Firefighters federal grant to the Delaware State Fire School on Monday.

According to the senator's office, the grant will supply the fire school with training props and simulators, as well as a new fire engine. There will also be a firefighting demonstration to show how the grant award is going to go toward purchasing better equipment that are designed to allow for hotter training fires for firefighter trainees.

Since 2001, Assistance to Firefighters Grants have helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain the critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fires.

The Delaware State Fire School provides fire, rescue, emergency medical training, and public fire safety education to Delaware natives and first responders. Senator Carper's announcement will take place at the fire school at 1461 Chestnut Grove Rd. in Dover, on Monday, July 25 from 11 a.m. until 11:45 a.m.
