Dover, Del. -- The Dover Police Department has announced it is bringing back National Night Out to the Dover community next month.

National Night Out is a nationwide community initiative that promotes police-community partnerships, crime prevention, and neighborhood unity. This year, the Dover Police Department will partner with the Target Department store in Dover to host the event, along with several emergency agencies and military personnel. According to the department, the night gives local families the opportunity to meet and greet their local heroes and see the equipment used by emergency personnel. The department also states that the event is a tradition that gives the Dover police the opportunity to improve their relationship with the community.

In addition to appearances and demonstrations by emergency agencies, Night Out will feature fun activities for children of all ages, like a free bounce house, along with food and a cameo from McGruff the Crime Dog.

WSFS Bank and the Dover Police Department will also partner together for the National Night Out 2nd Annual Shred Event, where local residents will be invited to bring personal documents to be shredded free of charge. The Shred Event is a way for the department to present the public with safety tips on how to prevent identity theft.

The Dover Police Department's National Night Out will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 9 from 6-8 p.m. in the Target parking lot on 148 John Hunn Brown Rd. For more information, visit the Dover Police Department website.
