DELMARVA - Here's an understatement: It's been hot. All across Delmarva, people are coping with the heat, whether they are outside for leisure or out of necessity.

At the Cannery Village pool in Milton, WBOC caught up with Joy and Kevin Kelly, who were swimming along with their friend Helen Camenisch.

"It feels pretty good," said Joy. "it's perfect."

"It's a good fit," added Camenisch. "On a day like today, it's the best."

The three were just a few of the thousands flocking to the beaches and pools of Delmarva to cool down. With the temperature well over 90 degrees across Delmarva, Kevin said that it was difficult being outside at all.

"The only downside was walking down to get here," laughed Kevin.

Meanwhile over in Rehoboth Beach, 18-year-old Sergei Stratos was surrounded by hundreds of people, as stood in the surf.

"Honestly it's like meltdown level right now," he said. "I think it's like 95. Maybe 100. Or at least that's how it feels."

For many of us though, spending some time at the beach was impossible for this work day. That meant a lot of sweaty, uncomfortable people across the peninsula. Angelo Gabrielle had perhaps the worst day of anyone on Delmarva, as his car battery died on the side of the road in Bridgeville.

"It's scorching," he said. "From day break to now it's scorching."

WBOC gave Gabrielle a jump, and his car got moving. He said his next step was obvious.

"AC," he said. "A.C. first thing."

To cope with the heat, four cooling stations have been opened throughout Sussex County:
