Local Delegate Predicts Support from Sanders Supporters

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - After a loud and divisive start to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Dorchester County delegate Cheryl Everman predicts Tuesday night will be different.

"When I spoke with them outside the convention hall, they were really talking about, they just want to get their message across," said Everman.  "And I think they're going to come together.  Most of them said they would support Hillary."

Everman's comments followed Monday night's loud protest by Bernie Sanders supporters who claimed their candidate never had a fair shot at getting the party's nomination.  Reports surfaced over the weekend that hacked emails showed the Democratic National Committee had shown partiality for Clinton during the primary process.

"They're very passionate, they're very passionate about their candidate.  We understand that.  And they're passionate about their issues," said Everman.

But Everman says it's time for the party to put aside the discord, and unify to defeat Donald Trump.  She said Michelle Obama's upbeat opening night speech set the right tone.

"I'd like to keep a positive message throughout the entire campaign," said Everman.  "I think people are more motivated when you're offering the something positive rather than negative and divisive."

Former president Bill Clinton will be the featured speaker Tuesday night in Philadelphia.
