GEORGETOWN, Del. --  The Delaware State Police Department says they have arrested two men in connection with a series of burglaries to churches in the Georgetown and Lincoln areas.

Police say an investigation began around April 17 when the Milford Police Department started their own investigation of a burglary at the First Baptist Church. Police were able to identify Christopher Willey, 24, of Georgetown on July 5 for the previous burglary.

Information was shared with the Troop 4 Criminal Investigations Unit about the burglary due to numerous break-ins occurring within the Lincoln and Georgetown areas involving churches and businesses. Police say Willey and his accomplice, who was identified as Christopher J. Carter, 24, of Harrington, would enter into the buildings by breaking a window, removing air condition units from windows, or in one case, cutting a hold through a roof. According to authorities, once inside the two would remove cash, power tools, or other construction equipment before fleeing. The two suspects were also noted to have caused thousands of dollars' worth of damage in a few of the cases.

Authorities reported Wiley, who was already incarcerated at Sussex Correctional Institution for a violation of probation, and Carter, who also violated his probation, were charged by detectives with seven counts of burglary 3rd, eight counts of conspiracy 2nd, five counts of possession of burglary tools, seven counts of theft, selling stolen property, and six counts of criminal mischief. They were both incarcerated at SCI in lieu of $35,000 secured bond.
