BERLIN, Md. -- Maryland State Police say one man has died after a car collision Sunday morning, in the area of US 50 at Route 589 in Worcester County.

Authorities report around 8:06 a.m., Mervin Louis Martin of Pittsville was driving his 2001 white Chevy, going east bound, when the driver merged into the left side of the roadway, struck a ditch, and then reentered the roadway, striking a tractor trailer that was making a left turn from Route 589 onto US 50.

Police say Martin, who was driving alone, was pronounced dead on the scene. He was the only fatality in the accident. The driver of the tractor trailer, Russell Morrison of Fayetteville, Pa was not injured in the collision.

US 50 westbound was closed for several hours while troopers investigated the incident.
