REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - A Milford man was charged with his sixth DUI Sunday morning in Rehoboth Beach.

Police say officers were called to check on the welfare of 45-year-old Stephen Haggerty around 7:30 a.m. when he was reportedly intoxicated and getting into a van in the first block of Wilmington Avenue.

Police said when they arrived, Haggerty was sitting in the driver seat of a van parked along the north side of the street. An officer noticed Haggerty was showing signs of impairment and the car smelled strongly of alcohol, according to police.

Haggerty was taken into custody, and a blood sample was taken at Beebe Healthcare. Police said he was arrested and charged with one count of felony sixth offense driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Haggerty was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $6,000 cash bail.
