MILLSBORO, Del. – Roadwork continues on a stretch of Route 24 between Millsboro and Gumboro. Delaware Department of Transportation is repaving roughly 11 miles of road as part of a statewide program to maintain roadways.

Wayne Massey, DelDOT Area Coordinator, says work began July 18. Crews first milled 1 to 2 inches off the top of the road. Now they are paving the travel lanes.

"Over time the road starts to deteriorate,” said Massey, “and this program is to maintain what roadways we have."

According to Massey, because of the numerous side roads along this stretch of Route 24, travelers can expect a 15 to 20 minute delay. He recommends taking an alternate route if one is available.

So far, weather has not been a significant issue. The heat does occasionally require crews to end a day early. That said, Massey believes they are on schedule, if not ahead of schedule for the projected completion date of Nov. 4.
