REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. -- Delaware State Police say in collaboration with the Human Trafficking Task Force, Delaware Department of Justice and Homeland Security Investigators, a Wilmington man has been arrested in connection with a human trafficking ring in Rehoboth.

Police say on Friday, September 2nd, DSPD troops received information that Marcus Smith, 32 of Wilmington, was running a prostitution ring out of a Rehoboth area motel. Detectives and Special Agents with Homeland Security began searching hotel surveillance footage, in addition to communicating with a phone number associated with prostitution advertisements posted on www.backpage.com.

On Saturday, as Smith and two females exited the hotel, police say troopers and task force members conducted a traffic stop on Smith's vehicle and took him into custody. A search of the suspect revealed over $1,400 in suspected prostitution proceeds. Police report Smith and the two female victims, along with Smith's 6-month-old daughter, were transported to Troop 7 in Lewes.

Delaware State Police say Smith was charged with two counts of human trafficking, sexual servitude, and endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned at JP3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $105,000 bond. The two female victims were reported as obtaining temporary lodging by the DSPD Victim Services Unit; Family Services turned over the custody of the 6-month-old girl to a relative.

Victims or persons with information regarding Smith's activities are asked to contact Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.

New Waterfront Hotel Breaks Ground in O.C., Part 2

The location of a new waterfront hotel that recently broke ground in Ocean City is raising some eyebrows with neighbors in the downtown area.

The Cambria Hotel is being built in the vacant lot that sits just north of the Route 50 drawbridge, meaning it will be one of the first things drivers see headed into town.

Brian Plimack, who lives just behind the development, said the hotel is too much of a drastic change to the town's skyline.
