Deadly Pedestrian Crash in Laurel

LAUREL, Del.- Delaware State Police say the Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a deadly pedestrian crash that occurred late Friday night.

Police say the incident occurred around 9:22 p.m. when Chad Everett, 45, of Seaford was driving his 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser southbound on Sussex Highway (US 13), approaching Chipmans Lane when a male pedestrian ran across the southbound lanes of the road. The man ran directly into the side of the PT Cruiser before, police say, landing on the pavement. Everett stopped the vehicle after the collision.

DSPD report the male pedestrian is originally from Mexico; his identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. He was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where police say he was pronounced dead. Everett was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was uninjured.

Police also reported that alcohol may have been a factor on the behalf of the pedestrian who was wearing dark clothing and was not carrying a flashlight. US 13 southbound at Chipmans Lane was closed for approximately two and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
