Father Angry, Alleges Lack of Care for Daughter at Cambridge Hospital

CAMBRIDGE, Md.- One father is claiming the nursing staff at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Cambridge did not provide timely care for his daughter whom he said was suffering from an overdose of methadone.

Warrington Baker of Cambridge said he brought his daughter into the hospital's emergency room late last week.  Baker said she had visited a clinic for a methadone treatment earlier in the day and had been given too much of the opiod medication. After arriving at the ER, Baker claims he and his daughter were inside for up to 15 minutes before a nurse responded to his daughter.  

Baker captured a few minutes of his time in the emergency room on his cellphone and has since posted the video to YouTube.  During the video, Baker can be heard trying to wake up his daughter while she seems to be gasping for air at different moments in the video.

Baker told WBOC on Monday that he was pleading with security to get a nurse or doctor to take a look at his daughter.  In the video, Baker can be seen checking nearby hallways for any nurses nearby.

A few minutes into the video, a nurse arrives and is heard saying "Call Code" and then "Code Blue" can be heard over the loudspeaker in the emergency room. Baker continues to film as his daughter is lifted into a chair and led off down the hallway in the hospital.

The video lasts three minutes and 45 seconds and as of Monday afternoon, had been viewed almost 14,000 times.

WBOC reached out to University of Maryland Shore Regional Health about the incident and the YouTube video.  In a statement, Shore Regional Health said, "University of Maryland Shore Regional Health takes the responsibility of caring for our communities very seriously and we regret any concerns on the part of our patient and her family. We are thoroughly evaluating the timeline and circumstances of this matter, and recognize that anxieties are often heightened in medical situations.  We have begun a dialogue with this patient's family in an effort to address their specific needs and concerns. In respect of patient privacy, these conversations will be conducted directly with the patient and her family."
