SALISBURY, Md. -- The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office says a Salisbury man has been arrested for posing as a police officer after claiming his home was burglarized.

Police say Thomas Cook, 30, was going door to door informing residents that he was investigating recent daytime burglaries and identifying himself as a State Trooper, flashing a silver badge. Residents reported to police that Cook may have been under the influence when he approached their residences. Authorities later learned Cook told residents his home had been burglarized.

After being taken into custody, police say Cook told them he decided to investigate burglaries on his own because law enforcement had not solved them. Cook was transported to the Central Booking Unit for processing. He has been released on $25,000 unsecured bond.
