HARRINGTON, Del.- A Seaford man accused of robbing a 76-year-old man during an auction held at the Delaware State Fairgrounds couldn't make it off the property before being captured.

Delaware State Police said the incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday on the Green Lot of the fairgrounds. When troopers arrived on the scene, they found the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Brandon A. Givens, already detained by good Samaritans. Givens was then placed under arrest by the responding troopers.

During the investigation that followed, troopers learned that the victim, a 76-year-old man from Denton, Md. was on the Green Lot where the Wilson’s Auction (Mid-Atlantic Equipment Auction) was being held. According to police, the victim was a volunteer for the Burrsville Ruritan Club and selling food and beverages from a cart at the auction as a fundraiser for the club. Givens quickly appeared behind the victim and grabbed cash from the victim’s hand and attempted to run away, troopers said.

However, police said the victim held onto the money and both Givens and victim fell to the ground during the struggle. Givens was able to gain possession of the cash and fled. Troopers said the victim, good Samaritans and an off-duty trooper chased and captured Givens. At this point Givens was detained until troopers arrived. Police said the money was returned to the victim, who was not injured.

Givens was charged with first-degree robbery and ordered held in the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in default of  $25,000 secured bond.
