HARRINGTON, Del. - Police are investigating a strong arm robbery at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington.

According to the Delaware State Police, the robbery took place on Saturday around 3:10 p.m. in the Green Lot, located at 18500 South DuPont Highway. Police said when they arrived, 30-year-old Brandon Givens of Seaford had already been detained by good Samaritans as the suspect.

The 76-year-old Denton man who had been robbed was a volunteer for the Burrsville Ruritan Club selling food and beverages from a cart at the Wilson’s or Mid-Atlantic Equipment Auction in the Green Lot, police said. Givens had appeared behind him quickly and grabbed cash from his hand, then attempted to run away.

According to police, the victim held onto the money, and the two men fell to the ground during the struggle. Givens ultimately got hold of the cash and ran away, but some good Samaritans and an off-duty trooper chased him and caught him.

When police arrived, they said they arrested Givens and returned the money to the victim, who was not injured.

Givens was charged with robbery and committed the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in default of a $25,000 secured bond.
