Delmarva Gas Prices Rise Following Pipeline Leak

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - The ripple effect of the pipeline leak detected in Alabama on September 9th is now popping up at gas pumps in Delmarva.

According to AAA people here are paying an average of ten cents a gallon more than they were a week ago.  Drivers are starting to notice.

"Two, three, four dollars more every time you fill up," said Paul Thomas of Delmar who was filling up at a station in North Salisbury.  "Sure, it affects everyone."

Repair crews in Alabama finished constructing a temporary bypass line around the leak earlier this week.  They expect to open the line by Wednesday evening.  However, a spokesman for Colonial Pipeline which operates the pipeline, said it will take several days for the entire fuel delivery supply chain to return to normal.

About 1.3 million barrels of fuel flow through the pipeline every day from Gulf Coast refineries to customers from Atlanta to New York which is nearly 40 per cent of the region's gasoline.
