FELTON, Del. - The Delaware State Police has identified a man who was killed Friday afternoon in a crash in Felton.

Police said Saturday that 66-year-old Sherman, L. Catchings, of Magnolia, was operating a 1987 Chevrolet S-10 at the time of the crash, which happened just after 4 pm Friday.  Police said Catchings was driving eastbound on Willow Grove Road (SR 10) approaching the intersection of Pony Track Road, when for unknown reasons, he went off the road and hit a tree in the front yard of a home. Police said the car then spun before coming to rest in the yard.

Police said Catchings was able to get out of his car, however, he was pronounced dead at the scene by Kent County Paramedics after collapsing in the yard. Police said there were no other injuries and neither alcohol or drugs are being considered a factor in the crash.

Willow Grove Road was closed for approximately 2 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
