Man Crashed Into "Road Closed" Barrier Near Snow Hill

Posted: Updated:

SNOW HILL, Md. - A man was sent to the hospital Sunday night after hitting a "road closed" barrier heading into Snow Hill, Md., according to authorities.

Maryland State Police said early Monday that Claude Daniel Johnson, of Parksley, Va., was driving a black Dodge Ram pick-up truck southbound on SR 12 north of West Hills Drive from Salisbury to Snow Hill, when he collided with the reflective, plastic drum barricade, before striking construction materials that were also being used to barricade the roadway.

Johnson was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, police said. He was charged with failing to obey properly placed traffic control device instructions and negligent driving. Both violations contributed to the accident, police said.

Police said the truck did not hit any of the construction vehicles not did he reach any part of the roadway that had been washed away.

SR 12 has been closed for the past week due to the floods earlier this month that washed away the roadway just south of West Hills Drive. The Maryland State Highway Administration has said it would likely be three weeks before the road would reopen.
