Stephen Decatur HS Student Charged After Social Media Post

BERLIN, Md.- Authorities say they have charged a ninth grade student with disturbing school activities or personnel after he made a social media post alluding to a possible school shooting at Stephen Decatur High School in Berlin.

The Worcester County Bureau of Investigation said the incident happened Wednesday, Sept. 28, when the student used a popular social media application to make the post. 

Investigators said that as a result of the post, school activities were delayed and rearranged the following day. In addition, increased law enforcement personnel were brought in to ensure the safety of the students.

On Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016, detectives from the WCBI, along with members of the Worcester County Board of Education, were able to identify the person allegedly responsible as the aforementioned student who attended the school. The boy was interviewed with his parent and school staff present and confessed to making the post, leading to the aforementioned charge, according to investigators.
