Surf Fishing Tag Bearing No. 1 Will Be Auctioned This Weekend

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. -- Low-digit surf fishing tags will be auctioned off at an event this weekend in Delaware, including a plate that bears the numeral "1."

The tag is among several low-digit tags being auctioned on Saturday at the Boo-B-Q event in Seashore State Park. Other numbers include 5, 11, 200, 400, and 500. The proceeds benefit Delaware State Parks.

How much the No. 1 tag will be worth is a mystery. The tag bearing the numeral "2" was sold for $20,500 at a previous auction.

Greg Abbott with Delaware State Parks said two local auctioneers estimated at least double that amount, with one claiming it could sell for $50,000 and the other believing it could reach $100,000.

"It all depends on which bidders are there and how bad they want it...I think it's a once in a lifetime opportunity," he said.
