GEORGETOWN, Del. - Georgetown police report they have arrested a man for falsely reporting to authorities that he had been sexually abused by a teacher.

Police say 20-year-old Natanael Perez-Gonzalez is charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident to Law Enforcement, Forgery 2nd Degree, and Providing a False Statement to Law Enforcement.

On Sept. 20, Perez-Gonzalez reportedly told police he was involved in sexual relations with a teacher who was employed by the Indian River School District. At the time of the alleged incident, Perez-Gonzalez was a registered student in the Indian River School District with a documented date of birth of December 1998 (17). At the request of Georgetown police, Perez-Gonzalez also allegedly provided a copy of his filed documents with the Immigration Office which outlined his date of birth as December 1998. Perez-Gonzalez’s accusations resulted in the arrest Nicole Degirolano, 23, for four counts of Sexual Abuse of a Child.

After the arrest of Degirolano, police say questions were raised regarding the age of the accuser. Georgetown police requested a certified copy of Perez-Gonzalez’s birth certificate, which he later provided to investigators. Attorneys for Degirolano also provided investigators with a possible birth certificate for Perez-Gonzalez which showed a date of birth of December 1995 (20). Georgetown police contacted the Guatemala Consular to determine if either of the birth certificates was authentic. Police say the Guatemala Consular determined the authentic birth certificate for Perez-Gonzalez included a date of birth of December 1995

The charges against Degirolano were dropped on Sept. 29.

Perez-Gonzalez turned himself into Georgetown Police on Monday, Oct. 24.  Perez-Gonzalez was processed and arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court #3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $5,000.00 cash bond.
