VIENNA, Md.- Authorities say a Dorchester County sheriff's deputy used a Taser on a Vienna man who resisted arrest during a traffic stop.

On Monday, a sheriff's deputy stopped a car on Rt. 331 at Maiden Branch Road. The deputy then discovered that the driver, 30-year-old Victor Lee Merritt, was wanted in connection an incident that happened back in June.

When the deputy tried taking Merritt into custody, authorities said Merritt became combative and resisted arrest, causing both the deputy and the suspect to fall in the roadway. The deputy was able to break free and used his Taser on the suspect and take him into custody, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Merritt is charged with two counts of possession of marijuana, six counts of possession of paraphernalia, possession of cocaine, possession of methamphetamine and resisting arrest. He was ordered held on $18,500 bond.
