ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Maryland Governor Larry Hogan announced the Office of Crime Control & Prevention has awarded over $2.3 million in federal funding to state and local agencies preventing violent crimes against women and families.

The funding is a Violence Against Women Act grant, awarding $2,367,650 toward efforts to help protect women and families from domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking crimes. The Violence Against Women Act was reauthorized in 2013 and is a federal grant that allocates its funding to services, training, law enforcement officers, and prosecutors. State agencies are encouraged to forge lasting partnerships with both state and local criminal justice systems, along with victim advocacy groups that provide resources by partnering with community and faith-based organizations to respond to such crimes.

"Our administration is committed to protecting victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, and these resources will provide critical treatment and support that can make a real difference," said Hogan following today's announcement. "I encourage all Marylanders to join with us in fighting to prevent these crimes and providing support and care for all victims."

On Delmarva, in Talbot County, the Mid-Shore Council of Family Violence and For All Seasons, Inc. agencies were granted federal funding totaling over $120,000 under Hogan's announcement. In Wicomico County, the Life Crisis Center, Inc. was awarded $29,000 and in Worcester County, the Atlantic General Hospital Corporation was granted $18,000.

In addition to the $2.3 million grant, over $100,000 will be awarded to the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services and the Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault, Inc. as a result of the grant.
