MILLSBORO, Del.- The Delaware Department of Justice says a homeless man has been sentenced for killing a taxi driver in Millsboro in 2014.

The DOJ said in an email Friday that 25-year-old Joshua Dutton was sentenced this week for the strangulation death of 45-year-old William Toomey. Back in August of 2014, investigators say Dutton was picked up by Toomey on Coastal Highway just south of the Sea Esta IV Motel in Rehoboth Beach. Dutton directed Toomey to a secluded location within the Parker's Point Development west of Millsboro, when police say the suspect removed his seat belt and used it to strangle Toomey from behind. Police say Dutton then drove the taxi throughout Sussex County before abandoning the car on Country Living Road near Millsboro.

WBOC spoke with Toomey's sister, Cassandra Webb, back in 2014, about the motive for the crime; she said she believed Dutton killed Toomey "because he didn't have his cab fare money."

Dutton pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of Toomey; he has been sentenced to serve to 40 years in prison.
