72-year-old Man Killed While Walking on Road

BRIDGEVILLE, Del. - Delaware State Police are investigating a deadly pedestrian accident south of Bridgeville Saturday where a car hit a man walking along the road.

Police said it happened around 8:06 p.m. when Kenneth Hodges, 64 of Seaford, was driving south on Wesley Church Rd. just south of Bridgeville. A pedestrian, David Wynes, 72 of Georgetown, was walking facing traffic in the southbound lane.

According to DSP, Hedges attempted to swerve but was unable to avoid hitting Wynes. As a result, police said Wynes was carried on the vehicle before landing on the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Wynes was not carrying any type of light or reflective clothing.

Hodges and his wife who was a passenger in the car were treated for minor injuries, both were wearing seat belts.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation into this incident.
