PRINCESS ANNE, Md.- Authorities say an electrical malfunction is to blame for a Tuesday afternoon fire that ruined a home in Princess Anne.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said fire broke out shortly before 3 p.m. at the two story home located at 10460 Champ Road. A neighbor reported the blaze, which took 15 firefighters from the Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Company approximately an hour to get under control.

The fire caused an estimated $80,000 in damage to the structure and another $30,000 in damage to its contents. There were no reported injuries.

Investigators ruled the fire accidental and determined it was caused by a failure of an extension cord in a second floor bedroom.

Authorities said the home's occupant, Russell Williams, was displaced and is being assisted by family members.
