WYE MILLS, Md. - A portion of Maryland Route 404 will be closed for about two weeks starting Wednesday so that crews can replace piping.

The State Highway Administration says the road closure will occur at Always Inn Lane in Wye Mills, and traffic will be redirected to US 50 (Ocean Gateway), MD 662 (Old Wye Mills Road) and MD 213 (College Drive).

During the road closure, SHA's contractor will replace two deteriorating metal pipes carrying a branch of the Wye River with a single, 40-foot-long, reinforced concrete pipe. The contractor may have to de-energize power lines in the area for a few hours, but SHA says it will provide advance notice of any planned outage.

The work will not impact MD 404 traffic east of US 50, where a project to widen 9.2 miles has been underway since the summer.
