SALISBURY, Md.- A Wicomico County sheriff's deputy has been suspended after he was accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the Fraternal Order of Police.

According to the Wicomico County State's Attorney's Office, Sgt. Martin Fisher was charged on Tuesday with one count of theft having a value of at least $10,000 but less than $100,000 from the FOP Lodge #111. The lodge's website lists Fisher as its president. The charges stem from an investigation conducted by an outside police agency and will be prosecuted by a special prosecutor from another jurisdiction, the State's Attorney's Office said.

Fisher was suspended with pay back on Oct. 17 following suspicions of theft, Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis said in a statement. Following his arrest on Nov. 22, Fisher's status was changed from suspended with pay to suspended without pay, pending trial.

Fisher has been released on $100,000 bond.
