Reward Offered for Information in Dover Pawn Shop Burglary

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. -- Even though the hole cut in the siding of Capital Pawn in Dover has been fixed, the store remains closed after a burglary police said occurred late Monday night with handguns, rifles and jewelry taken in the incident.

A total o $10,000 in reward money for information that might lead to a conviction for whomever is being offered. Operators of the veteran-owned business, located near U.S. Route 13, think that will spur an arrest.

"They're gonna' catch these guys and it will be unfortunate for them," said Charles Rayborn, a representative for the owners of Capital Pawn.

City police are cooperating with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in the investigation. The fact that weapons were taken during the burglary is especially concerning, said Cpl. Mark Hoffman, a Dover police spokesman.

"Not only for our safety but for the safety of the community. Having multiple guns out in the community, obviously in bad hands, is of great concern to us."

Capital Pawn said they could not let a WBOC reporter and photographer inside of their shop on Wednesday because of the ongoing investigation. Customers approaching the store were greeted with a sign telling them to come back on Monday.

If you think someone spots stolen jewelry being sold through second-hand transactions, Hoffman said police should be notified.

"If a deal is too good to be true, 9 out of 10 times it is, especially when it comes to high end items like jewelry or electronics," he said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Dover Police Department at 302-736-7130. Callers may remain anonymous.
