State Police Conduct Thanksgiving DUI Initiative

Posted: Updated:

BERLIN, Md. - The Thanksgiving holiday often sees an increase in alcohol-related violations, particularly drunk driving, on the day before the holiday. Because of this, the Maryland State Police Berlin Barrack, in partnership with the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office and the Ocean City Police Department conducted a DUI initiative on Wednesday, in support of the Thanksgiving holiday.

State Police said they targeted areas historically known for areas  of seeing a lot of impaired driving incidents such as US Rt. 50, MD Rt. 90, US Rt. 113, and MD Rt. 528, otherwise known as Coastal Highway.

As a result of the initiative, police said 54 traffic stops were conducted resulting in 20 citations, 47 warnings and 3 DUI arrests.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that alcohol-related violations increase an average of 54% during the Thanksgiving holiday.
