SALISBURY, Md.- The Salisbury Zoo is getting some help with repairs to its exhibits following the heavy flooding it saw earlier this year.

Monty Sayler, group manager of commercial banking at M&T Bank in Salisbury, presented the zoo with a check for $5,000 Tuesday. The donation through the M&T Charitable Foundation will help with repairs and expansion of the burrowing owl exhibit.

Two large trees fell during the late September storm. The zoo said one of the trees caused some damage to the owl exhibit. The second crushed a section of the perimeter fence along the south side of the zoo.

During the height of the flood, workers provided temporary housing to some animals at the zoo's health facility. When the rising waters totally flooded the alpaca exhibit along the river, the alpacas were released onto the zoo grounds, the zoo said. An alpaca was later found lying down in the water and died. All other animals appear to have endured the challenging conditions well, according to the zoo.
