MILTON, Del.- A teenage girl is in the hospital after she ran her car off Route 1 near Milton on Wednesday morning.

It happened shortly after 9 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the highway, just south of Route 16. The 17-year-old girl was the car's sole occupant.

Delaware State Police said they believe the teen hit a barrier on the left-hand side before careening into the right barrier and crashing into the woods. She was transported to a nearby hospital but is expected to be OK.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
