Sussex County Organization Wins $10,000 in National Competition

SEAFORD, Del. - The ACE Peer Resource Center now has $10,000 more dollars to help Sussex County's homeless community.

The center won the Stanley Tools "2016 "Build Your America" contest for charities across the country, by receiving the most votes. The center will now receive $10,000 in funds and $1,000 worth of tools. ACE Center Director Jim Martin says the funds will help them with the services they currently provide, such as helping with job searches or finding affordable housing. Martin says they plan on sharing the money with other Sussex County non-profits, including Code Purple

"It's a 'We project," says Martin. "We talk all the time about what does illness begin with? It begins with an I. What does isolation begin with--I.
What do welcome and wellness begin with: we. We try to get people to think about the we, and maybe this could be another example."

Martin says while they're honored they won, it's not about them-- it's about Sussex Countians caring for their community.

"It really wasn't about the ACE. Center after a while. It was about Sussex County and whoever is trying to reach out to help the most vulnerable out there," he told WBOC. "It was a story about that and we just happened to be in that position."
