SALISBURY, Md. - Police have arrested 35-year old Jay Lavar Grooms of Salisbury for the armed robbery of a Salisbury hotel.

According to the Salisbury Police Department, on Tuesday around 2 a.m. officers responded to La Quinta Inn and Suites for a report of a robbery. Police said an employee of the hotel told them a suspect had gone in and demanded money.

Further investigation showed the suspect, later identified as Grooms, made a distinct motion upon entering the hotel that led the employee to believe he had a weapon, though police said no weapon was ever displayed.

Police say Grooms then demanded for money, which the employee handed over, and then ran away. Later, witnesses told police that they saw Grooms enter a home on 200 block of Newton Street in Salisbury.

Officers then went to that location where they found Grooms hiding; they also recovered money and other evidence connecting him to the hotel robbery.

Authorities say Grooms will be charged with robbery, second-degree assault, and theft of under $1,000.
