PRINCESS ANNE, Md.- A mother and two children, attacked in a Princess Anne home, remain in critical condition in Baltimore hospitals Wednesday night, according to Tim Bozman, Princess Anne Police Chief.  Airealle Sells, 25, is at Shock Trauma, while her children, an eight-year-old and four-year-old, are at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Sharef Dontre Hayward is facing attempted murder charges following accusations that he attacked his girlfriend and her two children on Tuesday. Hayward has a violent criminal history, court records show.

According to Maryland court records, in November 2009, Hayward, of Baltimore, but formerly of Princess Anne, was sentenced to 20 years in prison with all but eight suspended after pleading guilty to armed robbery. Also in November 2009 he was sentenced to two years behind bars after pleading guilty to second-degree assault.

Hayward's latest arrest occurred Tuesday following an alleged attack that took place at around 3 a.m. that morning at the Princess Anne Townhouses located off of Pine Knoll Drive.

Princess Anne police said Hayward stabbed Sells, of Princess Anne, and then assaulted her, her 8-year-old daughter and her 4-year-old son, with a hammer.

Hayward is charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder, three counts of attempted second-degree murder, three counts of first-degree assault, three counts of second-degree assault, three counts of reckless endangerment and violation of a protective order. He was ordered held without bond in the Somerset County Detention Center.

Sells had requested and was granted a protective order against Hayward on Monday. Bozman noted that after Tuesday's attack, Hayward called a friend and confessed to the crime. The friend then notified police who went to the home and found the three victims.
