SALISBURY, Md. - One Salisbury man said he witnessed two people trying to steal Christmas trees from a downtown Salisbury tree lot early Wednesday morning.  When the man stepped in to make them stop, he paid for his good deeds.

Salisbury Police confirm to WBOC that Christmas trees were stolen from the Dorman's Downtown Christmas Tree Sale near the downtown Salisbury plaza.  Scott Reddish said early Wednesday morning, he was headed to his car when he noticed something wasn't quite right.

"When I got to the other side, I noticed two guys who were strapping down a couple of trees to their car.  So, I said something to them and tried to tell them to put it back.  And the next thing I know, we're in this big tussle over it  All over a Christmas tree.  I don't even know why you would want to steal a Christmas tree, it's not even that much," Reddish said.

Wednesday morning, Reddish had a black eye from the fight he had with the two men he saw making off with the trees in their white pick-up truck.  Reddish added that everything happened quickly, and it was dark, so he was unable to get a good look at the two men or the license plate on their truck.  However, Reddish said there were other people who saw the encounter from another nearby parking lot and he hopes those people got a better look at the truck or tree thieves.

A few hours after trying to do some good, Reddish is still left wondering why anyone would steal a Christmas tree.

"It's a low-life scenario.  First of all, those grow all over the place.  If you really want one, you can go cut one down somewhere probably.  And to steal from around here, especially downtown and stuff where we are building this community up, it just show that we still have a long way to go around here with certain people," Reddish said.

Anyone who may have witnessed the tree theft or has any information about what happen is urged to contact the Salisbury Police Department.
